A couple of weeks ago, Ben & Jerry's announced a new flavor of ice cream, named after a legendary Saturday Night Live skit: Schweddy Balls. Well, that name choice has drawn the ire of the American Family Association.
"Schweddy Balls is the best they could come up with. The vulgar new flavor has turned something as innocent as ice cream into something repulsive. Not exactly what you want a child asking for at the supermarket...It seems that offending customers has become an annual tradition for Ben & Jerry's... If it proves popular, another batch might be forthcoming, but we hope not." the organization wrote in a statement.
The organization asks for supporters to send an email to the ice cream maker's public relations manager asking them to refrain from making more controversial ice cream names.
For their part, Ben & Jerry's says, "The name is irreverent," spokesman Sean Greenwood said. "But we've always been about having some irreverence and having some fun ... We're not trying to offend people. Our fans get the humor."
