Amarula: the best cream -you've never heard of yet...

December 11, 2014

Day Drinking- or morning drinking.  The time that I'm most on target and my palate is ready to be charmed.  Why should this morning be any different?

Greeted with a nice steaming cup of Porto Rico Coffee Roasters Organic Mexican (French Roast), all I could think of is that bottle of Amarula, waiting for me in the cabinet.

The coffee, slick with dark notes of earth and crushed stone fruits goes into the cup first, followed by what I consider to be the best cream liqueur around.  Of course I don't normally write about this genre of the liquor world.  Especially not sweetened and creamy.  I'm anything but sweet and creamy.

But I agreed to at least try something new, and Amarula is exactly where I want to begin.

Made in South Africa out of the Marula fruit, Amarula is the high in anti-oxidants and beneficial oils to the human (and evidently the animal) body.  Known for many thousands of years, the Marula fruit is chock full of healing goodness!

But this tells you nothing about what it tastes like. Especially with the addition of Barrell Bourbon #003.  This whiskey takes my palate to another level entirely!

I think Amarula tastes like the amalgamation of an Irish Cream liqueur and whiskey.  It's hauntingly dense, richly scented and full of flavor.  Sure you should keep it in the fridge after opening, but after shaking up a morning drink, it won't be around long enough to sour.

This is the perfect foil for a morning cocktail with my gorgeous coffee!
